FR-4 is a widely accepted international grade glass fiber reinforced epoxy resin laminate with flame retardant. After adding a copper layer on one side or each side of FR4, it becomes a copper clad laminate, which is the non-conductive core material of ordinary printed circuit boards (PCB). The printed circuit board with FR4 as the core material will be named "FR4 PCB".
PCBs are used to mechanically support and electrically connect electronic components using conductive paths, tracks, or signal traces etched from a copper clad laminate substrate. If no additional electronic components are added, the PCB is also called printed wiring board or etching wiring board.
